David E Schipper Leads off with Poison an awesome song and ends with even better Not worth the Whiskey, but it's worth many a play with a glass of whiskey as companion. In my DBT Top 10 for 2022.

Poison 03:19
What do you say to a man who won’t listen I don’t want to waste my breath You say I’m crazy, out of my mind You ain’t seen nothing yet Making excuses for your behavior In the only way you can No these reasons they don’t make you A decent man CHORUS I gave you a taste of your own medicine And you say I poisoned you I know you won’t change cuz you can’t understand So what else can I do I stand straight before you I won’t walk away this time I’m not bent and I’m not broken By your crimes You got a passionate case But I don’t care what you say You’re not the only one acting like this Every day CHORUS I gave you a taste of your own medicine And you say I poisoned you I know you won’t change cuz you can’t understand So what else can I do I gave you a taste of your own medicine And you say I poisoned you I know you won’t change cuz you can’t understand So what else can I do The story is nothing new Every word I say is true To a man who won’t listen A man who won’t listen

Nightstand 03:32
Nightstand VERSE 1 Had this fear of falling down the stairs Since my father caught me in midair When I was a baby, I was a baby, yeah When the devil’s with me I must say He almost always gets his way Since I was a baby, I was a baby, yeah CHORUS 1 I was born with the cord wrapped around my neck It’s not something I could ever forget The world’s been trying to take me out since the day I first arrived There’s a darkness a-reaching for my hand I keep a gun in my nightstand Waiting for music to bury a body by VERSE 2 Just like clockwork he appears A lonesome soul with the ringing ears But I’m not his baby, I’m not his baby, no But the tale of Venus sways his mind He falls into my trap right on time Cuz he’s not a baby, he’s not a baby, no CHORUS 2 He was born with the shadows on his mind Searching for something he could never define The world’s been trying to drag him down since the day he first arrived There’s a darkness a-reaching for my hand I take the gun from my nightstand Dancing to music to bury a body by BRIDGE The devil’s on my back again Looking out at all those sad young men Who won’t be my baby, won’t be my baby, no But before I show him what he’s won I better tell him every little thing I done Since I was a baby, I was a baby, yeah CHORUS 3 I was born with the cord wrapped around my neck It’s not something I could ever forget World’s been trying to take me out since the day I first arrived There’s a darkness a-reaching for my hand There’s a gun in my nightstand Waiting for music to bury a body by Waiting for music to bury a body by Music to bury a body by

See the bad seeds rolling across the floor Hear the wolves howl outside the door Your tired old magic don’t work on me anymore Say you called the devil up yesterday Won’t you tell me what my old man had to say Can’t think of a lie you better get on your knees and pray CHORUS When I die I know just what awaits me I’ll be free from a world that betrayed me The cold hard ground is gonna hold me That’s what my mama told me You drink like me you’ll find an early grave Soul like mine’s got nothin to save Find the right master and you’ll never be a slave CHORUS When I die I know just what awaits me I’ll be free from a world that betrayed me The cold hard ground is gonna hold me That’s what my mama told me When I die I know just what awaits me I’ll be free from a world that betrayed me The cold hard ground is gonna hold me That’s what my mama told me

I tried to save you All that I gave you I tried to save you from yourself When you had no one else You’re deep in the water Misdeeds are the fodder On which your guilty conscience feeds Cuz you can’t get what you need CHORUS Now you’re greeted by a day you knew would come Starin down everything we both know you done And I can only be good for so long You done me so wrong You’re not worth the whisky I tried to hold you Back when I told you I won’t find myself to blame If you set yourself aflame You walked into the fire I found you a liar Your blood won’t be on my hands Cuz you’re not a gentle man CHORUS Now you’re greeted by a day you knew would come Starin down everything we both know you done And I can only be good for so long You done me so wrong You’re not worth the whisky Not worth the whisky Not worth the whisky

Generals gathered in their masses, Just like witches at black masses Evil minds that plot destruction, Sorcerer of death's construction In the fields the bodies burning, As the war machine keeps turning Death and hatred to mankind, Poisoning their brainwashed minds Oh lord yeah Politicians hide themselves away, they only started the war Why should they go out to fight? They leave that role to the poor Time will tell on their power minds, making war just for fun Treating people just like pawns in chess, Wait 'till judgement day comes Now in darkness world stops turning, ashes where the bodies burning No more War Pigs have the power, hand of God has struck the hour Day of judgement, God is calling, on their knees the war pigs crawling Begging mercies for their sins, Satan, laughing, spreads his wings

about

Sarah King sent a shot-in-the-dark email to Simone Felice (producer for the Lumineers, Jade Bird, and Matt Maeson) with a live performance video of “Nightstand.” He was impressed enough to invite her to his studio to record the track, followed by a second invitation to record the four other songs that now make up The Hour.

The songs range from gender-reversed murder ballads to a soul-country anthem inspired by AOC and her strength dealing with men belittling her to a chilling, live acoustic cover of Black Sabbath's anti-war classic War Pigs. Says King, "I didn't intend for this to be a political record, but it turned out to be precisely the political record I need to write. Turns out I have an awful lot to say about female empowerment, facing grief and death, and how I won't just stay inside the lines and do what others expect."

The Hour’s five tracks explore finding the strength to stand up to someone more powerful (“Poison”), confronting the fear of physical violence with revenge (“Nightstand”), finding freedom in death (“Cold Hard Ground), making peace with your dark deeds (“Not Worth the Whisky”), and the hypocrisy of war (“War Pigs”). Together, they are the promise that she will make her voice, and the voices of women everywhere, heard.

All songs (except War Pigs) one-stop, pre-cleared, master owned.
War Pigs master rights pre-cleared.
